Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of completing the signing of Zimbabwean international midfielder Marshall Munetsi from Stade Reims in a deal reportedly worth over €20 million (£17 million).
The 28-year-old is expected to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract, with an option for an additional year, as Wolves look to strengthen their midfield for the remainder of the Premier League season.
Munetsi, who has been with Reims since June 2019, has been a standout performer in Ligue 1, earning a reputation for his defensive solidity, versatility, and ability to contribute in attack. His move to Wolves would mark a significant step in his career, as he prepares to test himself in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.
French club Reims has granted Munetsi permission to discuss personal terms with Wolves, but they are actively working on securing a replacement before allowing the deal to go through. With the January transfer window closing soon, Wolves are keen to finalize the transfer as quickly as possible.
Munetsi’s arrival at Molineux could be a landmark moment for Zimbabwean football. If the deal is completed, he would become the latest Zimbabwean international to feature in the Premier League.
Initially, Munetsi was expected to join fellow countryman Tawanda Chirewa at Wolves. However, Chirewa, a 21-year-old midfielder, recently completed a loan move to Huddersfield Town for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Despite Chirewa’s temporary departure, Munetsi’s signing would still be a source of pride for Zimbabwean football, further raising the country’s profile in English football.
Wolves Also Set to Sign Nasser Djiga
In addition to Munetsi, Wolves are also closing in on the signing of defender Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade. The 22-year-old Burkinabé centre-back is set to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal, with an option for a further year, as part of the club’s efforts to reinforce their defensive lineup.
The double signing of Munetsi and Djiga highlights Wolves’ ambition as they look to build on their Premier League campaign. Currently in mid-table, the club is aiming to push for a strong second half of the season, and the additions of Munetsi and Djiga could provide valuable depth and quality.
For Munetsi, the move represents an opportunity to make an impact in England’s top tier and further raise the profile of Zimbabwean football on the global stage.
