Yesterday, the NESCO Community Football Club embarked on a challenging journey to Buhera town, approximately 13 kilometres away, to take on their opponents in a series of gripping matches. Despite the odds stacked against them walking the long distance and many players competing barefooted, the young athletes displayed unwavering determination and commitment. Their efforts shone through in the results, and their story is one of grit, passion, and hope.

Under-20s: A Mixed Day on the Pitch

The NESCO U20s kicked off the day with a commanding performance against Makumbe, securing a 4-1 victory. Leading the charge was T. Nyamhandu, who netted twice, while E. Muchetu and S. Marumbei each contributed a goal to seal the win. However, in their second match against Buhera, the team faced a tougher challenge, falling 2-1 in a tightly contested battle. The results reflect both the potential and the resilience of this young squad.

Under-15s: A Learning Experience

The U15 team faced a formidable Buhera Juniors side, ending with a 4-1 defeat. Meanwhile, in a separate match, Makumbe overwhelmed Nesco FC with a 7-2 scoreline. Though the results didn’t go their way, the experience gained by these young players is invaluable as they continue to grow and develop.

Overcoming Obstacles

The journey to Buhera was no small feat. The team walked 13 kilometers to reach the venue, a testament to their dedication. Many of the players competed without proper footwear, a stark reminder of the challenges they face off the pitch. Yet, despite these hardships, their spirit remained unbroken. The coach praised the athletes’ resolve, noting their commitment to the sport and their drive to achieve positive results against all odds.

The NESCO Community Football Club is more than just a team it’s a symbol of hope and perseverance for these young athletes. Their passion for football shines through, but they need help to reach their full potential. We’re appealing to well-wishers, sponsors, and the community to step forward and support this incredible group. Donations of football boots, training gear, or even transportation assistance could make a world of difference.

Let’s rally behind these kids who refuse to give up, no matter the distance or the obstacles. Together, we can help them kick their dreams into reality. If you’d like to contribute or learn more, please reach out—we’d love to hear from you!
